Musical Diaries from the Ghetto

Monday June 8, 2009
2:00 pm
Congregation Emanu-El
2 Lake Street, San Francisco

During the Holocaust, composers such as Viktor Ulmann and Karel Berman used music as an outlet to channel their creativity and generate hope during a time of complete despair. Today, this music provides us with personal testimony and an historical record of life in the ghettos. The program will include a lecture by accomplished international composer Dr. Nurit Jugend, performance by pianist Edna Koren, and an extraordinary exhibition of original paintings and sculptures by Holocaust survivors.

No reservations necessary, and no admission charge.

Co-presented by Community School of Music and Arts, Congregation Emanu-El, Jewish Family and Children’s Services, and Music at Stanford.
