International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Jewish Life in Italy, Yesterday and Today
Tuesday, January 27
5:00 pm – reception, light refreshments
5:30 pm - program
HCNC
121 Steuart Street, SF
While the experience of Eastern European Jews during the Holocaust is well documented and the topic of much research, Nazi policies did reach and affect thriving Jewish communities in Southern Europe and North Africa as well. Join HCNC and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura as we look at the experience of Jews in Italy during the Holocaust in commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. *
The evening program will discuss Italian Jewish life before the Holocaust, and the relationship of Italian Jews to their ancestral home today. Lydia Mednick, a Holocaust survivor from Rome who was forced to flee with her parents in 1940, and Juliet Cassuto Rothman, the child of Holocaust refugees who returned to Italy in 1947, will share their experiences with moderator Francesco Spagnolo, Head of Research at the Judah L. Magnes Museum.
This event is free.
