Please join the Holocaust Center and Temple Beth Jacob in honoring Knud Dyby for his recent designation by Yad Vashem in Jerusalem as a Righteous Among the Nations, Israel's Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Authority, for his efforts as a Danish rescuer during the Holocaust and WWII. David Akov, Israeli Consul General for the Pacific Northwest region, will address the congregation.
As an activist in the Danish-Swedish resistance, Mr. Dyby arranged for the clandestine transport of Danish Jews to safety in Sweden. Knud also smuggled over thirty Allied airmen downed behind enemy lines, saboteurs, Baltic refugees and others fleeing the Nazis. Between October 1943 and May 5, 1945, the Danish-Swedish resistance assisted in the transport of 1,888 refugees to Sweden, mail, money, weapons, and intelligence information.
