Who is a Holocaust survivor? Why is it important to record and share stories about the Holocaust? April is Holocaust Remembrance Month. To find out more about this important historical event and how it affected the lives of some San Mateo County residents, come to a Courthouse Docket co-presented by the Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project and the San Mateo County History Museum.

Helen Farkas of Burlingame will give a short talk about her family’s story of survival. After being forced to move into a Jewish ghetto, Mrs. Farkas and her family were imprisoned at the infamous concentration camp of Auschwitz. Farkas has written a book about her experiences entitled Remember the Holocaust: A Memoir of Survival. Copies of this book will be available for purchase after the lecture.

This event comes to highlight the San Mateo County Holocaust Testimony Archives, which are comprised of the oral history interviews of individuals from San Mateo County who witnessed and survived the Holocaust. This collection was created by the Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project (BAHOHP) whose mission is to collect, preserve and put to use this enduring legacy from which future generations can learn.

The Courthouse Docket is a monthly lecture series at the History Museum. The program is free with admission to the museum.
