Manovill Holocaust History Fellowship

Available only through the Holocaust Center of Northern California, the Manovill Holocaust History Fellowship (MHHF) offers high school students a unique opportunity to study the Holocaust at a college level. Five fellows are selected to draw connections to other genocides and gain the tools to be advocates for building tolerance in the Bay Area.

The fellowship emphasizes experiential learning. Participants will hear from local Holocaust survivors, pursue research on a topic of their choice, work in the HCNC archives and take part in community events. Upon successful completion of the fellowship, fellows are awarded 60 hours of community service and a $500 stipend.

A semester as a MHHF Fellow includes:

  • Connecting with local Holocaust survivors: Fellows will have the opportunity to learn first hand from those who fled Nazi Germany, survived Auschwitz and started new lives in the Bay Area.
  • Working in the HCNC archives: Research a topic of your choice using original documents, photographs, rare books, newspapers, letters and Nazi regalia.
  • Becoming an activist for education and tolerance: The Bay Area is home to many organizations and groups that sponsor lectures, films and rallies. Learn the value of remembrance, the importance of Holocaust awareness, and the connection between the Holocaust and current genocide by taking part in these events.
  • Creating your own schedule: Are your weeks already full with sports, school work and other activities? The fellowship allows participants to choose when they want to work in the archives, conduct research and work on the thesis project.
